Homes coming to former Aquatic Fitness Center site

The former Aquatic Fitness Center property will be converted to 30 new homes.

The Holme Circle Civic Association last week met on Zoom, discussing several issues.

There are plans to build 30 homes, starting at $450,000, at the site of the former Aquatic Fitness Center, 3600 Grant Ave. The center was badly damaged by fire in 2017 and never reopened.

Though there were worries about traffic and possible higher property taxes, neighbors seem to be in favor of the plan. The creek will be cleaned, and a public walking path created.

The building, which featured a swimming pool, will be demolished. Some of the homes are expected to be completed by Christmas.

Amazon is building a warehouse at Ashton Road and Grant Avenue.

In other news, construction is moving swiftly on the new Amazon warehouse at Ashton Road and Grant Avenue.

Meanwhile, the shuttered 7-Eleven building at 2981 Welsh Road is expected to reopen, as soon as October. The new tenant has not been announced.

The civic association will raise money to add a basketball court to McArdle Playground.

A gun buyback event will take place on Saturday, June 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the St. Jerome Parish parking lot, 8100 Colfax St. Gift cards are expected to be given to people who turn in guns.

The civic association will meet again on Wednesday, May 26. ••
